Munir Velji

Munir is a seasoned trainer, counsellor and instructor. He has worked in the helping profession for over 29 years. He has earned a Bachelors Degree in Criminology from Simon Fraser University, a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from UBC and a Masters Degree in Social Work from UBC. He is designated a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in the Province of BC.  He is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management and has conducted close to 600 debriefings in his career. Munir is also well versed in de-escalation training and has been a certified trainer in Non- Violent Crisis Intervention for 16 years. Munir has worked in various settings including residential, healthcare, non- profit, mental health, addictions and EFAP.

Specialization

Munir is trained in Brief, Solution Focused Therapy, Systems and CBT. He is particularly passionate about working with people who have experienced trauma. He also has years of providing clinical support, direction and supervision. He will be providing supervision for "junior Counsellors" at Phare.

Approach

Munir believes in relationships, consultation and the therapeutic alliance as being central to working with people. He uses the same approach in supervision.
